The Reiche PTO is seeking compassionate community members to help ensure our most vulnerable students get to and from school safely.
What is the Walking School Bus? Approved volunteers meet students at designated bus stops in the morning or afternoon and walk with them to ensure they arrive at school safely. This program was created in response to recent community concerns but aims to continue long-term.
Time Commitment: Just 15 minutes a day—choose either morning OR afternoon, on the weekdays that work for your schedule.
Current Need: We especially need volunteers at these three Bayside stops serving Reiche students:
- Cumberland and Oak
- Cumberland and Smith
- Cumberland and Chestnut
Requirements:
- Available on a regular basis (specific weekday mornings or afternoons)
- Willingness to undergo a Portland Public Schools background check
- Enjoy working with children
- Alignment with our mission to support all students
Why Volunteer? Parents and students deeply appreciate this support, and volunteers report that it’s a delightful way to build community connections. These 15 minutes make a real difference in attendance and help families feel safe and supported.
