The Baysider

Welcome to The Baysider

Your connection to what’s happening in Portland’s most dynamic neighborhood.

Since 1999, The Baysider has been the voice of Bayside—starting as The Bayside Newsletter, evolving into Inside Bayside, and becoming the community newspaper you know today. For over two decades, neighbors, writers, and volunteers have used these pages to share the stories that matter most: new businesses, local events, neighborhood history, and the voices of the people who make Bayside unique.

The Baysider brings you the updates, perspectives, and community news that keep Bayside connected. From development updates to profiles of local businesses, from event calendars to the issues shaping our neighborhood’s future—we’re here to inform, engage, and celebrate what makes this corner of Portland special.

Whether you’re a longtime resident, a new neighbor, a business owner, or simply curious about this evolving neighborhood, The Baysider is your guide to where Portland’s past meets its future.

Want to help tell Bayside’s story? We’re looking for volunteer writers, photographers, and community contributors who want to share what makes this neighborhood special. If you’re passionate about Bayside and want to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.

Join the conversation. Know your neighborhood. Be a Baysider.

Winter 2026
The latest and greatest issue of The Baysider is here! Look for print editions all around the neighborhood, at the Public Library, and local businesses like our sponsors: Two Fat Cats Bakery, Leavitt & Sons Deli, Bayside Bowl, The Studio Portland, Isa Bistro, Coastal Wellness, Dyer’s Market, Portland Custom Tailor, Port City Bikes, Argenta Brewing, Pizzaiolo, Portland Downtown, State Street Storage, Maine Oyster Company, and Portland Downtown, among others. Special thanks to Maine Trust for Local News for helping us with printing. For more information about advertising or submitting and article for the next issue, contact baysider@baysideportland.org

CORRECTION: The print article on housing mistakenly identifies the Equality Commons development on Casco Street as an EqualityMaine project, when it is in fact a project of the Equality Community Center. The Baysider regrets the mistake and will amend the article online and print a retraction in the next issue.

The Baysider features items of interest to the Bayside neighborhood and the broader Portland community.
We invite everyone who lives, works or plays in Bayside to send in submissions: opinion pieces, neighborhood news, reviews, interviews, historical trivia, photos, original fiction, art—you name it! Anything related to Bayside. Also please submit events for our community calendar, ads for local businesses, ideas for future issues, and spread the word.

We are also seeking volunteers to regularly help with writing and design. If that’s you, please email us at: baysider@baysideportland.org Thank you to everyone—past and present—who has made The Baysider possible and who continues to make Bayside a special place.
